In memory and appreciation for maternal grandparents, Louise and Max Bornstein, and paternal grandparents, Anne and Bernie Wolf.

Louise & Max Bornstein

Clara cooked for 4 generations of Cathy’s (mother’s side of the) family. She was the best cook and among the most loving people Cathy has ever known. She squeezed every ounce of flavor from Cathy’s grandfather’s produce to make the tastiest pies, cakes, muffins, salad dressings, peas, spinach, and so many other dishes, that she has ever eaten. She inspires Cathy every day, even though she left this Earth years ago.

Clara Bonner, chef and woman extraordinaire

Louise & Max Bornstein's home in Louisville, Kentucky.

This is the Bornstein house and small house converted from a barn behind which was the huge vegetable garden and orchard. Cathy lived in the small house as a young child. Her paternal grandparents owned property in Elwood, Indiana including a farm, a general store, and rental properties.

From a young age, Cathy loved trailing behind her grandfather as he tended the seedlings in his greenhouse and the flowers and crops on the extensive grounds. She lived with her parents and 3 siblings in this small house that was converted from a barn behind their larger house until I was almost 9 years old.
